We could run Ergo IRCd, which is a single IRC server with no network capability, but it has history support.

With a web IRC client like gamja, we could have a public channel that's accessible to new potential members, without having the bar of Matrix, XMPP or Mail.

xbr moved away from certbot on various servers towards acme.sh, which makes maintenance easier.
