CCTV - You are never alone
Within the scope of the OpenSquare events hosted by Carré Rotondes, the Chaos Computer Club Lëtzebuerg (C3L) invites you to an information evening about daily mass-surveillance in Luxembourg.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems have been massively deployed in public and private areas over the past two decades throughout the country. The more technological knowledge and implementation methods evolve, the more these digital all-seeing eyes are able to spy on us, on every hour, every day.
Since years, C3L is calling attention to the endangerments to citizen and human rights, radiating by these systems.
In order to depict the violations of privacy, exercised by these systems; we aim at nothing less, than, informing citizens about their rights, possible dangers, reasonable deployment areas, prevention measures as protections from these always on the watch lenses.

Medicoleak Reloaded
Der Chaos Computer Club Lëtzebuerg (C3L) hat sich bereits 2012 zur Affäre „Medicoleak“ positioniert und geäussert. Wenn in der Verhandlung sehr wohl einiges geklärt werden konnte, so stellen sich am Ende doch wichtige rechtsstaatliche Fragen.
Warum wurde der Übermittler einer Sicherheitslücke angeklagt, und nicht etwa andere Personen / Institutionen, die fahrlässig mit sensiblen, privaten Daten von zehntausenden luxemburgischen Bürgern umgegangen sind? Wie kann es sein, dass 10 Tage nach Meldung bei offizieller Stelle, eine gravierende Schwachstelle, noch immer nicht behoben worden ist? Warum müssen Menschen die mit guter Absicht auf einen Misstand aufmerksam machen, für andere, die den Datenschutz nicht ernst nehmen gerade stehen?
„Der Fall hat gezeigt, dass es noch viel zu tun gibt bei der Thematik „Veröffentlichung von Sicherheitslücken“. Denn wenn der Übermittler schlechter Botschaften strafrechtlich verfolgt wird und nicht die Verantwortlichen einer Schwachstelle, dann läuft was falsch im System!“ gibt Jan GUTH zu bedenken.
Sam GRÜNEISEN erklärt weiter: „Wenn das Urteil zu einer Geldstrafe führen sollte, gibt es noch Grund zur Hoffnung auf eine bessere Gesetzgebung. Denn in anderen Ländern werden solche Taten mit Freiheitsentzug von mehreren Jahren bestraft. Der Status quo allerdings, muss der Freispruch in solchen Fällen werden! Jedes andere Urteil, wäre ein gesellschaftlicher Fehltritt im Kampf für einen besseren Datenschutz.“

Asyl im Namen der Menschenrechte
Jüngst jährte sich der Erhalt von politischem Asyl von Julian Assange (Sprecher der Enthüllungsplatform Wikileaks) in der ecuadorianischen Botschaft zum zweiten und seine Bewegungseinschränkung zum vierten Mal. Edward Snowden (Whistleblower) wurde vor über einem Jahr politisches Asyl in Russland gewährt und um 3 Jahre verlängert.
Beide haben erhebliche Risiken und Konsequenzen auf sich genommen um der Welt die wahren Absichten machthungriger Institutionen und deren Aktivitäten aufzuzeigen. Drohungen, Gerichtsverfahren und Denunzierungen waren die Antworten der betroffenen Staaten; und nur sehr wenig Gehör bei jenen, die politische und institutionelle Änderungen erbringen könnten.
Deshalb appelliert der Chaos Computer Club Lëtzebuerg (C3L) an die luxemburgische Regierung, Julian Assange und Edward Snowden politisches Asyl in Luxemburg anzubieten.
Damit würde sich zum ersten Mal seit den Enthüllungen von Wikileaks ein europäischer Mitgliedsstaat konkret hinter die beiden Menschenrechtsverteitiger stellen und ihre Position auf internationaler Ebene stärken. Eine politische Aktion welche längst überfällig ist.
Aufgrund ausbreitender Amnesie bei Politikern in Luxemburg möchten wir gerne noch einmal auf das Rundtischgespräch unserer Initiative “Freedom Not Fear” verweisen [0], bei welchem sich sämtliche anwesenden Parteivertreter – mit Ausnahme der ADR & PID – für ein Asyl von Edward Snowden in einem europäischen Mitgliedsstaat ausgesprochen haben.
"Die luxemburgische Regierung soll endlich politische Courage zeigen und aufhören sich nach der Pfeife der US-Amerikanischen Regierung bzw. des Kurses anderer EU-Mitgliedstaaten zu orientieren; und sich hinter die Menschen stellen welche nun bereits öfters ihre Loyalität gegenüber Offenheit, Datenschutz und Menschenrechte bewiesen haben." erklärt Jan Guth.
Edward Snowdens gröβte Sorge ist es, dass sich aus den gesamten Enthüllungen nichts zum Positiven entwickeln wird in punkto Privatsphäre, Datenschutz sowie Bürger- und Menschenrechte. Die Entscheidung Luxemburgs, auf internationaler Bühne, liegt nun bei der Regierung und der Opposition, welche durchaus die Regierung zu solch einer Aktion motivieren darf!
[h]ackyard memories
For the third time HaxoGreen transformed Diddeleng from Dude-Town to a town in which hackers had the controls for a week.
C3L kicked-off HaxoGreen with its very first iteration of its [h]ackyard. Basically nothing else than a village on a larger camp or a stand-alone camp when there is none else.
Not too big, a lots of crazy dutch hackers and a cosy atmosphere. Hacking leds, the pool, a tent, stocking of the power of servers, coding an XMPP bot and more was going on. Too much to mention all in one blog post. That's why you need to stay update on our project page or via Twitter.

Some Rock-A-Field attendees stand with Snowden!
For a lot of people living in Luxembourg it already became a tradition to head out on the field for the Rock-A-Field every year in Roeser. But this year was kind of special. I wanted to bring a piece of (h)acktivism with me and use the opportuniy to talk to people about Edward Snowden.
Thanks to the campaign of the Courage Foundation (see previous blog post), I wanted to spread the word about it on the festival. Below you find 3 results, but more hide behind the new project we have launched with it: Stand with Snowden!

The Chaos Computer Club Lëtzebuerg stands with Edward Snowden! We support whistle blowing, citizen and human rights!
We deny all methods of spying, all non-objective and non-democratic assessed procedures to legalize such activities by any institution or person; as we deeply believe in privacy!

Less is more! This is pretty much our philosophy regarding cryptoPartys. We'd rather see less people attending a cryptoParty of ours and dragging off with some new knowledge and implementing it, than a big crowd going home without having gained that much of new intel.
Our latest cryptoParty / security awareness conference in Ettelbréck ended exactly like the first one described above: 15 people - so no terrible big crowd - who had learned something that evening.
Topics like Apps to secure SmartPhones, Browser alternatives, Tor and much more were part of the program.

Opposing TTIP
Freedom of Information has always been one of our most important concerns and still is. Whether treaties are being called TAFTA, TTIP, TISA or whatever else, should and need to be negotiated in public and not behind closed doors.
Besides, we fear that a second ACTA treaty could be bootlegged in these.
As of we knew about these treaties, we demanded a full-stop of them, as it opposes every democratic and values we hold high!
